Story of a self confidence woman
A Story of a woman who faced many obstacles to sail from an average employee to an International Coach.
Rosy Iyenkutty was born in Chennai with nine siblings; She completed her BA in English from Queen Mary’s College. After completing her college studies, she joined an IT company in 2006. Rosy has started working confidently with big dreams for life.
At the age of 20, She fell ill with a rare disease called Guillain-Barre syndrome and could not speak. Doctors said she was on her death bed and won’t survive for 2 days. She overcame the deadly fate with her self-belief. Today is an International Image Consultant, Master Trainer, CEO & Founder of a training & Coaching Company in Chennai (Radical Image Consulting Pvt. Ltd. – An ISO Certified Company for holistic personal Skills).
“When I was in college, I could speak and write English fluently, and after graduation, I got a job in a good company. Life was going well. Suddenly one day, I started having pain in my legs. I could not even sit folding my legs. My legs continued to hurt even when I was idle. I used to be NCC Parade Commander, and March past is something I did with great pride. I thought this pain was not something I should be worried about, thinking maybe my legs hurt from the heavy workload. I thought rest would fix it, But I never knew I was just getting started for the worst nightmare of my life,” says Rosy.
“But the pain didn’t go away. After 3 months of medical treatments and a series of tests, the doctors told me I was suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome. It’s a sporadic disease and only happens to one in 4 lakhs, lucky me. My whole family was devastated.” said Rosy painfully.
Guillain Barre syndrome, known medically as GBS, is a rare disease in which our body’s immune system attacks our nervous system. The feet and hands are the first to be affected by this disease. When Rosy was diagnosed with this disease, she was immediately admitted to the hospital as she could barely walk.
“It started with my legs, and slowly, the pain and numbness spread to my hands. It continued until my face. At one point, my tongue’s taste buds began to numb. I couldn’t taste anything at all. Finally, my lips began pulling up on one side and down on the other. With Chronic pain and deviated face, the beautiful life which just started, Now fading away in front of my eyes,” said Rosy.
Rosy could not speak at one point, and her face got paralyzed. She was Unable to perform any tasks without the help of others, like dressing and going to the toilet. Her entire self-confidence collapsed when her face was paralyzed and her lips deviated. Rosy was mentally exhausted, wondering if this was how the rest of her life would be. But family stood by her to support.
“One day, my food pipe was completely blocked when I was in the hospital. Not even a drop of water was going in. The doctors told my family that I would die that night. But they didn’t tell me that. After my family meeting the doctors, I could sense something was wrong. At that moment, I could get a grip on reality. But I was clear about only one thing. I decided that no matter what happened, I would not lose my self-confidence at any cost. I firmly believed that I could handle anything, and this shall pass. I mentally prepare to fight till the last breath. Despite the doctor’s warning, I asked for water to drink. My family was scared at first. Then they gave me some water. I gathered all the strength in my body and drank 2 drops of water. It gave me some hope. I asked the doctors to send me home, and with a written declaration from my family, they agreed to send me. I want to be alive. I want to conquer my dreams. I want to achieve many things in my life, and not ready to give up,” Rosy said confidently.
When Rosy was brought home, the family treated her like a child and nurtured her. Little by little, Rosy regained her Confidence. She did not give up her work, even during medical treatments. She took a year’s medical leave and returned to work after recovering a bit, and there she was, back to chase her dreams. A person who could not speak for a year now gets paid just to provide an hour of speech. She gradually regained her Confidence by hosting a few programs & Training employees in her office.”After continuous treatment, I recovered a bit and continued my work. I met my husband for the first time in my office in 2011, and we married in 2014. My first baby was born in 2015. The doctors recommended inducing labour during the first childbirth; otherwise, I would end up in a coma. But I had the Confidence and willpower to give birth naturally. After marriage, my husband and in-laws helped me a lot. I have been doing social services in different organizations in Chennai with various responsibilities. I am an international trainer and counselling Psychologist as well. I have been providing online training to senior executives in multiple countries.
