Shriram Bharathi Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam belonging to Shriram Group of Companies, Chennai has been celebrating Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s birth anniversary for the past 34 years by honouring scholars, enthusiasts who have been actively propagating Bharathi’s Poetic works and his ideals to the public. This year the function was held on April 23 at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, T.Nagar. 
Dr.Avvai Arul delivered welcome speech narrating the dedicated efforts of Shriram Group in celebrating Bharathi’s Birth Anniversary, and the constant inspiration of R.Thiyagarajan, Chairman of Shriram Group. On that auspicious occasion, a special book on Bharathi’s Kuyil Pattu authored by Dr. Avvai Arul was released at the venue and issued to the audience at no cost.  
Professor R.Raman, Principal, Presidency College presided over the function and spoke on Bharatiar’s valuable poetic works and his lofty ideals. 
The six awardees including Udayam Ram, Dr. Meikandan, Dr. Ulaganayagi Palani, Kalaimamani Dr. Surya Prakash,  Dr.Meignani Prabhakarababu,  Thiruvaiyaru Sivakumar were felicitated with a citation and cash prize by ‘Sollin Selvar’ Sukhi Sivam and Professor Raman.
The function was graced by Padma Bhushan R.Thiyagarajan Chairman of Shriram group, G.Sundaresan, Director of Shriram Group of Companies and scholars, students etc.
Kalaimamani Suki Sivam delivered a speech highlighting the greatness of Mahakavi Bharathiyar during his vibrant life.
