Inauguration of Urban Forest at Puzhal Lake
Miyawaki Urban Forestry is one of the main projects of Thuvakkam created to increase green cover and absorption of carbon dioxide. Adapted from the celebrated Japanese Botanist Akira Miyawaki, the methodology involves scientific methods of increasing sustainable green cover by planting trees close to each other. In this project, Thuvakkam planted 1250 saplings with 25 plus species at Puzhal lake. Moving forward Thuvakkam aims to plant a total of 6,000 trees in a total area of 26,000 sq.ft.
Alby John Varghese, (Collector of Tiruvallur district) was inaugurated the Urban Forest on March 27 at Puzhal lake and it was sponsored by Full Creative. Members of Social Works Team Trust (SWOTT) supported the plantation activities led by Sameer and Sakthivel. The Urban Forestry Activities were carried out with the hopes of achieving the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) goals. The COVID-19 SOPs were followed during the event. None of this would have been possible without the constant support and participation of volunteers, the public, Thuvakkam employees, the SWOTT team, and the corporate social responsibility partner for the event, Full Creative, a press release said.
Thuvakkam, the NGO has initiated various projects and programs on the social issues dealing with Environment, Education, and Humanity. The goal of Thuvakkam is to create a better world for the future generation and enhance the humanity present in oneself.
