Saveetha Hospitality Institute – Food & Tourism (SHIFT), SIMATS, celebrated Vinayagar Chaturthi with a traditional Kolukattai Competition organised for the first-year students on September 15. The students enthusiastically showcased their culinary creativity by preparing a variety of traditional and innovative Kolukattai, including Paal Kolukattai, Kara Coconut Kolukattai, Ragi Kolukattai, White Kolukattai, Dates Kolukattai, Ragi Nuts Kolukattai, Black Til Kolukattai, Peanut Butter Chocolate Kolukattai, Onion Cheese Kolukattai, Banana Caramel Kolukattai, Sangu Flower Kolukattai, and Ela Adai Kolukattai.
The competition provided an opportunity for students to demonstrate their culinary skills, creativity, teamwork, presentation, and knowledge of traditional food preparation. The event also encouraged students to explore contemporary flavours while preserving the essence of traditional Indian cuisine.
The celebration promoted culinary heritage, innovation, cultural appreciation, teamwork, and togetherness among the first-year students, creating a joyful and memorable Vinayagar Chaturthi celebration at SHIFT. Prizes were given to students for Best creative presentation and Traditional stuffing
