To mark the beginning of India’s 80^th year of Independence celebrations, Thuvakkam (NGO, Valasaravakkam) officially launched its national campaign on July 29, “Mission 80 – Freedom Through Impact,” at Stanley Medical College & Hospital, Chennai.
The campaign was formally inaugurated by Dr. A. Aravind, M.D., D.M. (MGE), FRCP, Dean, Stanley Medical College & Hospital, who launched the initiative and encouraged collective action towards building a healthier, greener, and more inclusive India. Mission 80 is a six-month nationwide movement that will run from Independence Day to Republic Day, focusing on creating measurable social and environmental impact through three flagship commitments – Planting 80,000 Trees, Providing Scholarships for 80 Students and Empowering 80 Women through Livelihood Support.
The launch event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, volunteers, and members of the public, followed by a symbolic tree plantation drive on the Stanley Medical College campus, reaffirming the collective commitment towards environmental conservation and nation-building.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Kumar Suresh, Founder & President of Thuvakkam said,
“As India celebrates 80 years of Independence, we believe true freedom is reflected in the lives we transform. Mission 80 is our commitment to convert the spirit of Independence into meaningful action by restoring nature, investing in education, and empowering women. Through Mission 80, Thuvakkam aims to mobilize thousands of volunteers, institutions, corporates, educational organizations, and citizens across the country, demonstrating that meaningful change is achieved through collective participation.
The campaign invites individuals, educational institutions, corporate partners, and community organizations to join hands in creating lasting impact and celebrating India’s 80th year of Independence through service to society and the environment.
