Chennai Super Kings entered the auction with INR 48 crore on Feb 12. At the end of Feb 13, they had INR 2.95 crore left in their purse.
The four-time IPL champions (2010, 2011, and 2018, 2021) made two big buys – Deepak Chahar (14 crores) and Ambati Rayudu (6.75 crores).
Before the auction, CSK retained four players – Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 16 crore), MS Dhoni (Rs 12 crore), Moeen Ali (Rs 8 crore), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 6 crore) which is a great decision considering Jadeja and Moeen are in good touch with the bat as well as the ball. Additionally, another captain who could fill MSD’s role and on top of that, Rutu is in wonderful form, after all, he won the orange cap last year.
At the end of the auction 2022, CSK bought 21 players. Dwayne Bravo (Rs 4.40 crore), Robin Uthappa ( Rs 2 crore), Ambati Rayadu (Rs 6.75 crore), Deepak Chahar (Rs 14 crore), KM Asif (Rs 20 lakhs), Tushar Deshpande (Rs 20 lakhs), Shivam Dube (Rs 4 crore),Maheesh Theekshana (Rs 70 lakhs), Rajvardhan Hangargekar (Rs 1.50 crore), Simarjeet Singh (Rs 20 lakhs), Devon Conway (Rs 1 crore), Dwaine Pretorius (Rs 50 lakhs), Mitchell Santner (Rs 1.90 crore), Adam Milne (Rs1.90 crore), Subhranshu Senapati (Rs 20 lakhs), Mukesh Choudhary (Rs 20 lakhs), Prashant Solanki (Rs 1.20 crore), C Hari Nishaanth (Rs 20 lakhs), N Jagadeesan (Rs 20 lakhs), Chris Jordan (Rs 3.6 crore) and K Bhagath Varma (Rs 20 lakhs).
To sum it up, CSK followed the same old template of ensuring their core by buying back their own players. Although fans may be disappointed after Fab Du Plessis was brought by RCB, Devon Conway is predicted to replace his opener’s slot. Besides, we may see Shivam Dube in action since DC picked Shardul Thakur for a whopping 10.75 crores.
Hence, we could say the defending champions have almost got back their core team and found replacements for the lost ones. Let’s see how the new team performs in the upcoming IPL.
