Vignesh Shankar (Carnatic guitarist and composer), delivered a mesmerising performance at the Kartik Rajagopalan Hall, Chennai. Following the concert, he was warmly felicitated by D.S. Rajagopalan (Secretary of Kartik Fine Arts) in recognition of his significant contributions to classical music.
A distinctive voice in the realm of South Indian classical music, Vignesh has mastered the intricate nuances of the tradition, translating them seamlessly into the guitar. A disciple of esteemed gurus Vijay Arun and Delhi P. Sunderrajan, he has performed extensively across India, the United States, New Zealand, and Bali. His musical journey includes the release of two acclaimed Carnatic guitar albums, Soulful Strings and Bagayanayya, the latter recorded with legendary musicians in Chennai, including Grammy Award-winner Sri T.H. “Vikku” Vinayakram. His performances have also reached broader audiences through prominent media platforms such as Doordharshan, Suryan FM, and Zee TV.
As a regular fixture during Chennai’s vibrant Margazhi music season, Vignesh has graced the stages of numerous sabhas, demonstrating exceptional versatility. Beyond his deep roots in Carnatic music, he is an accomplished composer and performer in jazz, funk, rock, and fusion genres. Collaborations with internationally acclaimed jazz musicians have enabled him to skillfully weave diverse global influences into his repertoire. His excellence has earned him numerous accolades, including the 2024 Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award from the Presser Foundation. During the December music festival, he was honored with the titles “Bharatha Kala Sarathy” and “Yuva Kala Ratna,” and he has further been named a “Youth Global Ambassador” by Hamsadwani and SciArtsUS.
