Building a Hunger-Free Community

In observance of World Hunger Day (May 28), Saveetha College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Chennai Food Bank, organized a community welfare program at Venmanampudur  Village near Karanai. Through this initiative, grocery items and food supplies were distributed to approximately 120 families in need. The event commenced with a welcome address by social activist Sneha Mohandass, director of Food bank of India, who emphasized the importance of supporting economically disadvantaged communities. She also appreciated the service-minded efforts and social commitment demonstrated by the students of Saveetha College of Nursing. Following this, Dr. C. Muthulakshmi, Professor at Saveetha College of Nursing, delivered a special address highlighting the significance of social responsibility, compassion, and community service. She encouraged students to actively participate in social welfare activities and contribute to the betterment of society. As part of the program, the grocery items and food supplies collected by the students were distributed to the beneficiaries. The students also interacted directly with the village residents to understand their living conditions, challenges, and essential needs. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi, Principal, Saveetha College of Nursing, for her constant support, encouragement, and guidance, which greatly contributed to the successful organization of this event. Sincere appreciation to the program organizers, Dr. G. Bhuvaneswari and Dr. S.Tamil Selvi, Anitha D, Ajith Micheal for their dedicated planning, coordination, and valuable contributions in making this initiative a success. Special thanks are due to all the faculty members, students, and volunteers of Saveetha College of Nursing who enthusiastically participated in collecting grocery items and food supplies and distributing them to the deserving population. Their commitment, teamwork, and spirit of service played a vital role in the success of the program. The event concluded successfully with the active participation and support of faculty members, students, volunteers, and community residents. This World Hunger Day initiative not only provided essential support to families in need but also promoted awareness about hunger, strengthened social responsibility, and fostered a spirit of compassion and sharing within the community.
