Industrial visit for SHIFT students
Saveetha Hospitality Institute – Food & Tourism (SHIFT), Thandalam, organised an industrial visit to Grand Chennai by GRT Hotel, T. Nagar, on April 30 to provide practical exposure and industry experience to students.
A total of 15 first- and second-year students along with 5 faculty members participated in the visit. During the visit, students observed the functioning of various departments such as Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage Service, and Kitchen Operations. This helped them understand hotel procedures, guest service standards, and daily operations in the hospitality industry. The visit enabled students to connect their classroom learning with real-time practical experience. They also gained knowledge about teamwork, communication skills, professional ethics, and customer service followed in star hotels. As part of the programme, a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. T. Milton, with the support of the Grand Chennai by GRT management team. The session was led by Alifia Hussain, who shared valuable insights on current industry trends, expectations, and career opportunities.
The session was interactive, informative, and beneficial for both students and faculty members. It also provided an opportunity for knowledge sharing and discussion on future collaboration between the institution and the industry. Overall, the industrial visit was a successful and enriching learning experience for all 20 participants from Saveetha Hospitality Institute – Food & Tourism.
