Ramanuja Jayanti 2025 marks the 1008th  birth anniversary of Sri Ramanujacharya, one of the most revered philosophers, saint, social reformer, scholar and of strong character. Ramanuja is considered the most eminent teacher in the philosophy of Sri Vaishnavism.  Sri Ramanuja was born on April 25 1017 AD, on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month, in a Brahmin family of a village named SriPerumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
This year’s special occasion will be celebrated on May 2 (Friday), with grand pooja, vedic chants, spiritual discourses, procession and devotional observances across India and among Hindu communities worldwide.
Ramanuja took initiation into the Vedas from Guru ‘Yadav Prakash’. At the age of just 16, he had acquired complete knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads. Ramanuja always kept preaching equality of all classes. The most important contribution of Ramanuja is the concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which means that the entire universe is one family.
He was a proponent of the philosophical school known as Vishishtadvaita Vedanta (qualified non-dualism). His emphasis on bhakti (devotion) combined with jnana (knowledge) and karma (actions) shaped the religious practices of millions of Hindus over centuries.
Sri Bhashya (commentary on the Brahma Sutras), Vedartha Sangraha (summary of the Vedas’ meaning), Gita Bhashya (commentary on the Bhagavad Gita), Sharanagati Gadyam and Vaikuntha Gadyam (devotional prose), Vedanta Deep are his famous works.
