Beach cleanup drive  

Saveetha Nursing College, Thandalam in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Corporation, organized a beach cleanup drive on Feb.22 at Marina Beach, Chennai.
The event, which began at 7 am, was presided over by senior NSS Officers. Saveetha Nursing College faculty members and B.Sc. Nursing 30 students were participated.
The primary objective of this initiative was to promote environmental cleanliness and raise awareness about the importance of reducing plastic waste. After a brief inauguration, students were divided into teams and assigned specific sections of the beach to clean.
They diligently collected and segregated various types of waste, including plastic bags, bottles, paper, and other litter. The collected waste was systematically disposed of with the assistance of city sanitation workers. As part of the awareness campaign, students actively interacted with beachgoers, educating them on the hazards of plastic pollution and the need for sustainable waste management. Posters and banners were displayed to emphasize the message of environmental conservation. Public awareness sessions were also conducted, urging people to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and reduce the use of plastic products. By 10 am, the cleanup activity was successfully completed, and all participants gathered for a closing ceremony where their contributions were acknowledged. Faculty members and senior officials expressed their appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, recognizing the collective efforts of students, faculty and city officials in making the initiative a success. The cleanup drive not only helped in maintaining cleanliness but also reinforced the commitment of Saveetha Nursing College students towards social responsibility and environmental sustainability.
