Thaipusam is an important festival observed by the Hindus during the Tamil month of Thai which falls on Feb.11 this year. Thaipusam is celebrated in grand manner in Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka and elsewhere around the world.
On this day, Goddess Parvati presented a Vel (lance) to son Muruga to vanquish the demon army of Soorapadman and combat their evil deeds. Therefore, Thaipusam is a celebration of the victory of good over evil.
On Thaipusam Devotees pray to Subramanya by carrying Kavadi Aattam, doing Body piercings, taking processions to temple by chanting names of Bhagavan muruga, carrying pots of milk as offering to murugan for abhishekam etc. Vel Muruganukku Arogara!
