Diwali workshop on first aid

Radhatri Nethralaya (Hindi Prachar Sabha Street , T.Nagar) conducted its 12th annual Diwali workshop on first aid following cracker injuries to the eyes on Oct.24 in its premises. 80 school students and teachers from several city schools attended and benefited from the hands on workshop under the aegis of Rotary club of Chennai Towers. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Vasumathy Vedantham, Medical director, Radhatri Nethralaya.
The students enacted out several scenarios of cracker injuries under her expert guidance. Dr. Vasumathy said blindness due to cracker injuries are on the rise with sparklers causing the most damage. Simple first aid measures if done promptly would go a long way in reducing needless blindness, she added. All the participating students received certificates of participation and first aid kits from the hands of the chief guests Rajasthan Ratna Shri Subash Chand Ranka. Dr. Praveen Krishna, Medical Director Radhatri Nethralaya, Rotarian Shalin Shah, President RC Chennai towers and Rtn. Krishnachander were present in the workshop.
About 50,000 pamphlets with detailed information on first aid measures were distributed to the school students to take back to their schools. The students were encouraged to partake the knowledge gained in the workshop by conducting plays and workshops in their schools involving their fellow students. Dr. Praveen Krishna and Dr. Vasumathy Vedantham, Medical directors Radhatri Nethralaya and Shri Subash Chand Ranka oversee the students practising the first aid measures.
