Awareness to avoid Littering Coastal areas
Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board created a coastal litter monitoring kiosk in various coastal areas and 85 students of National Green Corps (NGC) from Chennai Corporation School, Thiruvanmiyur visited one such kiosk in Neelangarai beach.
All students were given cloth bags after the pledge on avoiding single use plastics in their daily life. Thangaraj, Chennai District NGC coordinator who monitors the green initiatives in Chennai Schools said, “We are making our schools, plastic free and every school will prepare manure from the waste generated from their schools including food waste.”
Dr. Ram Manohar, Environmentalist and Advisor Society for Promoting Global Sustainability (Springs) demonstrated the ill effects of single use plastics and insisted the roles and responsibilities of students and public in eradicating the banned plastics. The plastic waste management team of TNPCB invites students from schools and colleges to have a look at the alternatives of single use plastics.
