P.K. Sidharth M.A., (Kochi, Kerala) shared his experience of how he got interest in writing poems.
It is always pleasure for anyone to sum up his life in words. Well my beginnings, or the roots that shape my imagination, blood and fervour rolls into one aspect. That’s my bloodlust or passion for life. I didn’t really remember when or who inspired my initial days as a budding writer. I have known that my mother was my first teacher and who helped me to understand the world of literature. She touched my soul with hope and ambition. I began to write from school days. After graduating from school, I joined for higher studies in a school called Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School. Sacred Hearts showed me the man, who would later become an integral part of my life. Reverend Fr Thomson, who worked in the school as an English teacher, helped me so hard, that I can never forget anywhere in life. He knew my problems, my dreams. Fr, gave a special care and he taught me to see dreams of high. He even inspired me, that one day I will become a legend. Fr advised me to read and study works of great poets like Lord Byron, Keats and Pablo Neruda. I admire the romantic poetry of Byron’s pen with an equal taste for surrealism of Neruda.
My first poems earned me pain and trash, even sometimes failures. It took 9 years journey to make my dream of getting published come true. My first poem titled “Why Parted Thee So Early”? was realised by the loving support of a senior girl in my college and it was published in a local edition newspaper of Cochin on 2018. It was the beginning of everything that I have to convince to myself. My first book “The Soulful Melodies” came out on August 2020. It was the struggle, effort and incessant attempts that resulted in the publication.
Today my literary life has seen great laurels that I have never imagined before. I also set the record in India Book of Records for publishing the maximum number of poetry books in one year (August 2020 to July 2021). I have published 12 books and writings has found a place in newspapers, magazines, write ups and news channels. It is a blessing for me and adventure that is still ongoing.
