Alpha conducts Sports meet
The 26th Annual Sports Meet’24 of Alpha Arts and Science College, Porur was held on March 8 in the College premises. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Commonwealth Games Medalist, D. Dinesh Devaraj, Fencing Coach, SDAT, Chennai. Vice Chairperson of Alpha Group of Institutions, Suja George, Principal, Dr. A. Sivasankar, Vice Principal, Dr.Benita Merlin and Dermiz Alwin, Physical Director were the other dignitaries present on the occasion.
Sports Day 2024 began with an invocation seeking the blessings of the Almighty. This was followed by the Welcome Address by, S. Santhosh, Shift II, Sports Secretary. Chief Guest D. Dinesh Devaraj delivered the Inaugural Address highlighting the merits of sports, motivating students to aim high, empowering women security and declared the Sports Meet open by hoisting the flag. Suja George , Vice Chairperson, Alpha Group of Institutions offered her felicitations. She emphasised the empowerment of women in sports on this occassion of Women’s day and she took pride that Alpha has been providing them with more opportunities.
The events began in style with the much anticipated March Past by students of all the 4 Houses – Athens, Marathon, Olympia, Spartan and also the NCC, the NSS, Forum Members and Sportspersons led by the respective House Captains and Vice Captains. Another highlight of the day was the lighting of the Presidency Torch, carried by Karthick , Antony Leo , Pudiyavendhan and Sheniga. This was followed by the Oath taking, led by Sports Secretary Stephen Raj. Track and athletic events including the 100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts, 800 mts and relay followed. The prizes for the events, including the championship trophies were distributed. The final touch was given with a Arobic Danceled by Julie and Subashri along with their team. An adrenaline pumping Human Pyramid formation by the adventurous Alphans was a show stealer.
The Individual Champion in the Men’s Category was won by Pudhiyavendhan of Olympia House and Antony Leo of Marathon House. The Individual Champion in the Women’s Category was won by of Rohini of Athens House and Priyadharshini of Olymipa House. The Overall Championship for the year 2024 was bagged by Olympia House with 456 points. Athens House was the runner up with 400 points. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish. Principal Dr. A. Sivasankar, thanked all the students for their cooperation and support and encouraged students to keep up their spirit of sportsmanship. Alpha College congratulates the students for their enthusiastic participation.
