Pongal celebration at Alpha Arts And Science College

Pongal celebrations sparked off a festive spirit at Alpha Arts and Science College, Porur on Jan.12 in the college premises. The programme began with Thamizh Thaai Vazhthu. Teams of students, faculty and staff prepared Pongal in the traditional way. The sugarcane, colourfully painted pots and fragrant sweet rice (Pongal) added flavour and sweetness to the event. Men and boys in dhotis and women and girls in brightly coloured sarees looked like a human rangoli on the grounds of the college. It was a fun-filled occasion that celebrated the tradition of Tamil Nadu.
Students of Agaram Foundation, studying in Alpha Arts performed the Karagam, Tharaai thappattai and Silamabam. The beat of the drum brought dancers to their feet. There was much excitement in the air, feet tapping, swaying and dancing to the traditional rhythms of South India and more specifically that of Tamil Nadu.
This was followed by a few Pongal Games uri adi, musical chairs and tug of war. Principal Dr. A. Sivasankar distributed prizes to the winners of the games.
The celebrations came to anend with the National Anthem.
