Experiential learning
SV High Global School, Arumbakkam, took a step further this time and along with experiential learning, blended the core values of Cambridge as well. The students were highlighted the importance of community workers and were taken to the site of their work. The students across the grades got their first-hand experience of the fire station, the police station, the traffic police, the petrol pump, the metro station, and even the office of the Councillor of the Arumbakkam ward. It was an eye-opener for them and they were filled with gratitude.
Experiential learning is learning through action, experience, discovery, exploration and much more which is a result of our interactions and engagement with the world around us, and learning as we all know is an inevitable product of experience. Experiential learning takes a more holistic approach and involves all our experiences in tandem with our learning at cognitive, emotional sociological levels with a focus on environmental factors as well.
A reflection session later was heart-warming for everyone. It was reiterated yet again that learning can happen from anything, anywhere, not necessarily in a defined set-up.
