In India, Children’s Day is observed on November14, marks a day of joy and celebration across the nation pays homage to its first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Known affectionately as ‘Chacha Nehru,’ he held a special affinity for children, making this day a tribute to his legacy.
Initially aligned with the Universal Children’s Day on November 20, India later shifted its celebration to November 14 after Nehru’s passing in 1964. Though not a gazetted holiday, Children’s Day is enthusiastically observed in schools, fostering unity and heritage among the youth. In educational institutions, the day is marked by special assemblies, quizzes, cultural activities and plays, immersing children in the rich historical tapestry of the nation.
Children’s Day is not just a celebration but a poignant reminder that every child, regardless of background, deserves basic amenities.
