Vidyarambham on Vijayadashami
Article By: S. Vijaya Kumari, Retired Educationist.
As the day is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi, who is the source of all knowledge, it is believed that any form of learning started on that day will be fruitful.
Vidyarambham is the most important event in a child’s life. Joining preschool is a huge step for little ones. Children enter schools not only for learning but also to get shaped up as a whole person.
What do they not learn at schools?
To socialize, to share, to give and take, to forgive, to help, to lead, to respect and many more such life-building virtues.
So, as Margaret Mead rightly said, “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”
Education must focus more on practical learning and make schooling a happy journey for the future generations.
