Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a remarkable Indian politician, philosopher, and statesman, once said, “Teachers should be the best minds in the country”. These words hold a profound truth, for they resonate with the essence of Teacher’s Day, celebrated in India on September 5. This day is a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Radhakrishnan, whose birthday we commemorate, but it goes far beyond that. It’s a day when we honor the invaluable contributions of educators in shaping the future of society.
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who served as the second President of India from 1962 to 1967, was not just a leader but a teacher at heart. His humility and dedication were evident when, after taking office, he was approached by students who wished to celebrate his birthday extravagantly. Instead of basking in the spotlight, he made a humble request that touched the hearts of many. He asked that the day be observed as Teachers’ Day, focusing on the unsung heroes of our society, the educators.
Teachers play a pivotal role in our lives, nurturing our talents and instilling values. Sometimes, their discipline may seem stern, but it stems from a deep understanding of what is best for their students. As we celebrate Teacher’s Day, let’s honor Dr. Radhakrishnan’s legacy and appreciate all teachers. They are the unsung heroes who guide us toward knowledge, growth, and a brighter future.
