Inauguration of the houses for Irulas community

Nallammai Ramanathan Kuyilkuppam Nagar built by Rotary Club of Madras Central with 63 houses for Irula Community inaugurated on August 2 near Thirukazhukundram by Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin (Honourable Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development). 63 individual houses built by Abirami Ramanathan along with Rotary Club of Madras Central and various other Rotary Clubs all over Tamilnadu.
T.M. Anbarasu (Honourable Minister for Rural Cottage & Small Industries and Slum Clearance Board), G.Viswanathan (Founder & Chancellor of VIT University) and A.S.Venkatesh(Past Rotary International Director) were the guest of honour.
The Project Chairman Kalaimamani Abirami Ramanathan were told by Rotary member in Thirukazhukundram about hardships faced by Irula community, once known as community involved in snake catching. In the year 2018-19, Abirami Ramanathan along with Rotary Club of Madras Central undertook the project to provide houses for Irula families and worked along with government to get them non-transferable patta. Abirami Ramanathan began the construction in2018-19. With a cost of Rs.7.5 crores, individual houses on plots were built for 63 families each house measuring 650 sq.ft. Project Chairman Abirami Ramanathan spent Rs.4 crores as his personal donation and rest of were funded up by Abirami Ramanathan’s friends and various Rotary Clubs. Each house consist of two bedroom, one living room, a kitchen and one toilet with amenities such as gas stove, refrigerator, LED television, Led bulbs, ceiling fan, Mixie, Grinder, Bed and pillow, Steel cupboard, chairs, provisions for one month and pressure cooker and utensils. allammai Ramanathan Kuyilkuppam Nagar is situated in, Mullipakkam Road, Periyar Nagar, Manapathi Village, Thirukazhukundram, Chengalpattu District. Under this project, Abirami Ramanathan also made sure that the floors and walls are tiled and the foundation for each house is made with the strength of taking addition floor if required. Kalaimamani Abirami Ramanathan, believes that our country progresses only when people living in miserable conditions progresses. In his speech today, he spoke of poet Kavingar Kannadasan’s and requested many people in Rotary Clubs to come together to support projects such as this. For him and the club, it is a dream come to true project. G. Viswanathan (Founder & Chancellor of VIT University) in his speech requested Abirami Ramanathan to support higher education projects. At present, the Irula ladies of Nallammai Ramanthanan Kuyilkuppam Nagar will be undergoing training in sewing & tailoring and sooner all will be provided with a sewing machine to make them self-sustainment. Project Chairman & Past Rotary District Governor Kalaimamani Abirami Ramanathan has built many hospitals and donated several medical equipment in children’s wards in Government hospitals across Tamilnadu, built community halls and computer training institutes for school & college drop-outs in addition to various women-empowerment initiates such as sewing machines, tailoring schools for women etc. through various Rotary Clubs across the State of Tamilnadu. He has been supporting various social projects as a Rotarian and also donated money to construct temples in the state.
The inauguration ceremony were attended by over 2000 people which includes general public and members of various Rotary clubs in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Thirupathur, Thiruvannamalai and Thiruvallur Districts. A.S.Venkatesh (Past Rotary International Director), A.R.Rahul Nath IAS (Chengalpattu District Collector), S.S.Balaji (MLA Thiruporur) were other key dignitaries present in the function.
