Alpha celebrates Annual College Day

Alpha Arts and Science College, Porur celebrated its Annual College Day celebrations on April 19 in the college premises. The chief guest for the occasion was Suresh Krishnamurthy, (President and CEO India Cements Capital Ltd.). Dr. Grace George, Chairperson, Alpha Group of Institutions and Suja George, Vice Chairperson, Alpha Group of Institutions presided over the occasion. Principal Dr. A. Sivasankar, Vice Principal Dr. Benita Merlin, Coordinator of Shift II, Dr. Tamizharasai were the other dignitaries present in the event.
The formal programme began with an Invocation to the Almighty by the Alpha Choir. This was followed by the welcome address by Kezto Kumaresan, President, Student Forum, Shift I. Dr. Grace George (Chairperson) delivered the presidential address encouraging the student body to follow the good practices of Hard Work, Positive Approach and Prayer to gain success in life. In her Special Address, Vice Chairperson Suja George congratulated the Principal, faculty and students for a vibrant activity-filled year 2022-23. In one of the most of the most powerful speeches ever, Suresh Krishnamurthy elaborated on the purpose of education, differences in perception of learning, difference between learning and education and training. He encouraged the young learners of the college to make full use of their college education to become empowered and enlightened. Education would transform not only the individual, home and society but entire generations of the people. This was followed by a time of looking back, celebrating and reminiscing over past events with the screening of the Annual College Day Documentary, which took the audience through the events and accomplishments of the Departments and Clubs in that academic year. It was time then to honour meritorious students in various disciplines. The Dignitaries distributed prizes to students for their academic and general proficiency. Ramesh Shetty of III Viscom was awarded the Alpha Boy Trophy and Safia Fureen of II M.Sc. Biotechnology won the Alpha Girl Trophy.K. Gayathri, Vice President, Student Forum, Shift II delivered the vote of thanks.
A range of cultural programmes were performed by the students of Alpha.
