Alpha conducts annual sports meet

The vibrant 29th Annual Sports Meet 2025-26 of Alpha Arts and Science College, Porur, was celebrated on March 14 at college ground, bringing together students in a spirited display of athletic excellence. The sports meet was conducted under the auspices of Chairperson Suja George and Joint Directors George John and Anna John. The chief guest for the occasion was National Skater and Gold Medalist Menaga Veeraraghavan. Principal, Dr. A. Sivasankar, Vice Principal, Dr. Benita Merlin and Shift II Co-ordinator Dr. K.Tamilarasi were the other dignitaries present on the occasion. The programme began with an invocation by the Alpha Choir. This was followed by the welcome address by the Sports Secretary, T. Manikandan from the Department of Electronics with Artificial Intelligence.  Principal , Dr. A. Sivasankar honoured the chief guest with a memento and bouquet. The chief guest Menaga Veeraraghavan delivered the inaugural address highlighting the vital role of both education and sports in shaping the overall development of students. She encouraged students to actively participate in sports along with their academic pursuits.
The chief guest then declared the sports meet open by hoisting the flag followed by traditional salutes performed by the NCC cadets. This was followed by the March Past by students of all the 4 Houses โ€“ Athens, Marathon, Olympia and Sparta led by the respective House Captains and Vice Captains along with the contingents of NCC and Forum Members. Another highlight of the day was the lighting of the Presidency Torch, carried by Surya Varman, Mohammed Yakoob and Blesson Vass. This was followed by the oath taking, led by Sports Secretary, T. Manikandan. The Sports Report for the year 2025-26 was presented by R. Evangelin Marguret. The daring Alphians captivated the audience with their breathtaking Human Pyramid formations, which was the highlight of the event. Track and athletic events including the 100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts and relay, followed.
The prizes for the events, including the championship trophies were distributed. The individual championship in the Menโ€™s Category was won by V. Akash of Olympia House. The Individual Championship in the Womenโ€™s Category was won by T. Nithya of Sparta House. The Overall Championship for the year 2025-26 was bagged by Athens House with 355 points. Marathon House was the runner up with 326 points. The vote of thanks was delivered by Shift II Sports Secretary, Y. Blesson Vass from the Department of Computer Science (Shift II). It was a day filled with sportsman spirit, and new memories were created for posterity.
