The 27^th Annual Sports Meet 2024-25 of Alpha Arts and Science College, Porur, was celebrated on March 22 at the AASC Ground, bringing together students in a spirited display of athletic excellence. Under the auspices of Chairperson, Seva Ratna Dr. Grace George and Vice Chairperson Suja George the sports day events commenced. The chief guest for the occasion was International Fist Ball Player, V. Bhuvanash Kumar, Applications Manager, Technical Analyst at Zoho Corporation, Potheri. Principal, Dr. A. Sivasankar, Vice Principal, Dr.Benita Merlin, Dr.K.Tamilarasi , Co-Ordinator (Shift II) and Dermiz Alwin, Physical Director were the other dignitaries present on the occasion.
The programme began with an invocation by the Alpha Choir. This was followed by the welcome address by the Sports Secretary, Nittissh from the Dept. of Computer Science.  Principal , Dr. A. Sivasankar honored the chief guest with a memento and shawl. Chief Guest V. Bhuvanash Kumar delivered the inaugural address highlighting the merits of sports and wished the students would reach greater heights with the right balance of sports and academics. Principal Dr. A. Sivasankar commended the students for their unity, teamwork, and unwavering enthusiasm, encouraging them to uphold their spirit of sportsmanship. The Chief Guest then declared the sports meet open by hoisting the flag followed by traditional salutes performed by the NCC cadets.
It was followed by the March Past by students of all the 4 Houses – Athens, Marathon, Olympia and Sparta along with the contingents of NCC, the NSS, Forum Members and Sportspersons were led by the respective house captains and vice captains. Another highlight of the day was the lighting of the Presidency Torch, carried by Mohammed Yakoob, Pavithra, G. Ranjith Kumar and Vetrivel. The daring Alphians of the first and second years captivated the audience with their breathtaking Human Pyramid formation, which was the highlight of the event.
Additionally, Ranjith and Deepika of First year, BBA showcased their exceptional prowess in Silambattam, leaving the spectators in awe. This was followed by the oath taking, led by Sports Secretary, V. Nittissh. Track and athletic events including the 100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts, 800 mts and relay followed. The prizes for the events, including the championship trophies were distributed.
The Annual Sports Report for the year 2024-25 was presented by Dermiz Alwin. The Individual Championship in the men’s category was won by Blessen Vasan of Sparta House and S.J. Senjey of Athens House. The individual championship in the women’s category was won by Dhanalakshmi of Marathon House.
The Overall Championship for the year 2024-25 was bagged by Marathon House with 407 points. Olympia House was the runner up with 371 points. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dermiz Alwin.
It was a day filled with sportsman spirit and new memories were created for posterity.
